The accommodation challenge faced by Papua New Guineans

Truth must be told. The successive PNG governments have not addressed housing woos it’s citizens are being confronted with. It’s not a good news at all.

Families are living, cooking, eating, sleeping in one room that is about 10 square meters.

There is no privacy.

Toilets and showers are shared with other tenants to rooms that sell at about USD$200 a month.

The country’s National Housing Corporation whose core function is to build homes and lease to people does not seem to be functioning and delivering based on what is was set up for.

It’s company is the National Housing Corporation which transitioned from National Housing Commission set up prior to Independence in 1975.

It’s got its own Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
